Hallucinate, Confabulate, Obfuscate: The Perils of Generative AI Going Rogue

The promise of AI as embodied in new generative AI models such as ChatGPT, Bard, and others quickly went from lofty promises to warnings of peril. While we at DCL have always been optimistic about the advantages of AI, we also remain cautious as we test how best to implement explainable and responsible AI. In this on-demand webinar featuring DCL's CIO Tammy Bilitizky and Systems Architect Rich Dominelli, they discuss recent AI hallucinations they’ve observed, AI gone terribly wrong, and AI initiatives that seem truly promising. They will also detail how DCL tests and implements AI in its own automated systems.

DCL Wins KMWorld Readers' Choice Award in the Text Analytics Category

DCL has been honored with the 2023 KMWorld Readers' Choice Award for "Best Text Analytics." The annual award identifies innovative products and services that businesses depend on for continued success. "Over the years, DCL has been honored with many awards and accolades but the KMWorld Readers' Choice Award is especially meaningful because we were selected by our clients, partners, and industry peers," states Mark Gross, president of DCL. "We continue to expand our portfolio of services and have harnessed the power of natural language processing and machine learning. It's gratifying that the general public has a deep understanding of large language models, and that businesses today are more understanding of the importance of structured content and data in creating better AI models."

Six Reasons to Train Your Large Language Models (LLMs) With Structured Content

DCL partner RWS shares their insight on whether enterprises still need to invest in structuring and enriching their content, or whether LLMs can generate satisfactory results from unstructured and un-enriched text. LLMs suffer from a GIGO (garbage-in garbage-out) problem. They learn patterns and associations from the data they are trained on. If the training data is flawed, contains biases or inaccuracies, or includes low-quality content, the model will learn and replicate those flaws in its responses.

AI, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision Used to Unlock Text on Ancient Scrolls

A 21-year-old computer scientist named Luke Farritor became the first person in nearly 2000 years to read words from an ancient papyrus scroll that was buried under 60 feet of volcanic ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. Farritor along with other computer scientists and students are taking part in the Vesuvius Challenge, which is a machine learning and computer vision competition to read the Herculaneum Papyri. A $700,000 grand prize will be awarded to the first person or team to read four passages of text from the inside of the two intact scrolls. Read more about the amazing use of technology to unravel these ancient texts.

6 Reasons to Train Your Large Language Models (LLM) With Structured Content

At this point there is no question that LLMs will radically change the way enterprises deliver content to employees, customers, partners, and regulators. While it’s clear this change is coming, it’s less clear what this means for how enterprises create and manage their content. A particular question RWS's Alex Abey is hearing a lot these days is whether enterprises still need to invest in structuring and enriching their content, or whether LLMs can generate satisfactory results from unstructured and un-enriched text.

The Library of Congress American Memory Project

In 1997 many historical projects started to appear online thanks in part to DCL. The American Memory Project by the Library of Congress comprises documents, photographs, movies, and sound recordings that tell America's story.
