AIP Publishing Platform Migration
|
AIP Publishing (AIPP) is the publishing subsidiary of the American Institute of Physics with a portfolio of highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals, including a growing collection of Open Access titles, that cover all areas of the physical sciences. Faced with what could have been the daunting task of transferring, restructuring, and checking over a million files of complex scientific content, AIPP selected DCL to manage its migration to the Silverchair Platform. The scope of the project was massive due to the amount of content that had to be analyzed, converted, and delivered—47.4 gigabytes of XML and 1.73 terabytes of assets!

New Work In Technical Communication
|
The profession of technical communication is undergoing fundamental changes due to automation, digitalization, and globalization. The working practices of technical writers have shifted considerably. The content of technical writers' work has changed as well, due to technological advances and a more prominent role of end users in the design process. These developments imply that technical writers need to acquire more and different competencies than before.

Transforming Legacy Aircraft Documentation From PDFs to DITA XML
|
To demonstrate the ease with which legacy content can be migrated to DITA structured content, aircraft manufacturer Liftify allowed DCL and Componize to convert content as a proof of concept. In this recorded webinar we walk through a scenario that would allow technical writing teams to take advantage of all the benefits of structured DITA XML in an open source CCMS. It can be overwhelming when organizations face new workflows, new tools, and new technologies for the management of business-critical documents. Production never stops but it takes time to learn and test new workflows. Watch as we demonstrate a real-world scenario and the steps involved to journey from locked legacy PDFs to smart content management and production with DITA.

A Use of ChatGPT We Can Get Behind
|
While there are many uses of and experiments with ChatGPT these days, this bot serves a utilitarian purpose that many will find useful. "Buy it for life" is an increasingly popular ethos in which consumers strive to purchase a durable, long-lasting product rather than an inexpensive, cheaply made one. Buying many cheap products over the course of a lifetime is actually more expensive than buying one expensive-yet-enduring item. The Looria platform trained on more than 200K comments and posts on the BuyitForLife Reddit community.

California Casualty improves employee productivity and customer experience with Tridion Docs The insurance company expanded rapidly – from doing business in 13 US states to 44 states – and the number of documents they had to manage grew significantly. They introduced a document management system, but after using it for a decade, their Knowledge Management Team of three was struggling with the management of 35,000 documents. The company chose RWS's Tridion Docs as an on-premises solution for centrally managing their policies and procedures. California Casualty has since been able to deliver on a wide range of business objectives.

How Genetec optimized its localization with WhP’s Masterplan Genetec Inc is a world-leading provider of unified security, public safety, operations, and business intelligence solutions. In 2020 the organization reached out to WhP for a Masterplan. Its goal: optimize its global content management processes. The Masterplan led to WhP carrying out a Proof of Concept (POC) to align Genetec’s DITA-based documentation with its software strings. WhP proposed a process that automated synching of the user interface in every language. The process will be implemented after the new CCMS is fully operational.

Building a Cohesive Content Strategy
Developing and implementing a content strategy requires consideration and alignment of content models, structured authoring guidelines, reuse strategy, taxonomy, metadata, workflows and governance. This is no small task. A CCMS like Xyleme makes supporting a unified content strategy much easier than trying to manage each individual part of the process independently. Find out whether you need a content strategy and how to implement one as Xyleme talks with Val Swisher, Content Rules' Content Strategy Guru and CEO. [READ MORE]

The Old Ways...
Before Google Reviews or Trustpilot, customer appreciation came in the form of a nicely typed letter sent in the mail. In the example below, DCL's project manager Howard Shatz received kudos from Bristol-Myers Squibb for converting Xerox disks to Multimate!
While neither Xerox disks nor Multimate are around anymore, Howard Shatz and DCL's stellar customer support are alive and well. Howard now leads DCL's SPL conversion work for some of the world's leading pharma companies.
